Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, the Department of Computer Engineering organized a workshop entitled “Iraq’s Global Cybersecurity Index”, presented by Dr. Ahmed Obaid Salman, on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the department’s discussion hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members.
The workshop aimed to introduce the importance of cybersecurity and its role in protecting information and digital systems, as well as to highlight Iraq’s position in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) issued by the United Nations.
The workshop reviewed the current state of cybersecurity in Iraq and identified gaps related to the level of compliance with international standards and indicators. It also discussed the necessary procedures and measures required to strengthen digital security and improve Iraq’s ranking in comparison with Arab countries.
