“Providing energy is relatively easy; however, generating it at a low cost while producing fewer polluting emissions is the real challenge.” Guided by this vision, a research team participated in the Iraq International Oil, Gas, Energy and Petrochemicals Exhibition (IRAQ EXPO OGEP 2026), presenting a scientific study focused on developing sustainable solutions for energy supply in Baghdad.
The research, entitled “A Hybrid Energy Optimization System for Sustainable Energy Supply in Baghdad Utilizing the Akkas Gas Field,” explores innovative approaches to improving energy efficiency and supporting a more sustainable energy system.
The study was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Jawad and was presented by researcher Baraa Muadh Mohsen as part of the exhibition’s scientific activities. The event was held at the Basra International Fairgrounds in Al-Maqal Port, Basra, from 24 to 27 September 2026.
The research focuses on utilizing the available gas resources of the Akkas Gas Field within a hybrid energy system designed to improve energy-generation efficiency, reduce production costs, and minimize pollutant emissions. The proposed approach aligns with global trends toward more efficient, sustainable, and environmentally responsible energy systems.
The presentation of this research highlights the growing role of Iraqi scientific research in specialized international exhibitions and provides an opportunity to demonstrate how engineering research can contribute to addressing the country’s energy challenges.
