As part of its efforts to strengthen scientific cooperation and expand engagement with international universities, the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad received a high-level academic delegation from Southwest Petroleum University (SWPU) of China, headed by the University’s Assistant President and comprising a number of deans and specialized academics.
The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, Dean of the College of Engineering, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ziad Tariq Abdul-Ali, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, and Prof. Dr. Falih Hassan Mohammed, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, along with the heads of the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Energy Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, as well as a number of faculty members from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
The meeting addressed prospects for academic and research partnership between the two universities in the fields of chemical engineering, oil and gas development, environmental pollution treatment, renewable energy, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), in addition to topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The two sides also discussed opportunities for cooperation in research and joint international projects, student and researcher exchange, visiting professor and visiting researcher programs, as well as training opportunities and scholarships. Such cooperation would contribute to developing scientific and academic capacities and achieving mutual interests.
The College of Engineering welcomed the cooperation initiative. Both sides exchanged information on the relevant academic specializations and teaching staff in the proposed fields, paving the way for identifying areas of joint work and taking the necessary steps to translate the outcomes of the visit into practical academic and research programs.
