A delegation from the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, headed by Prof. Dr. Falih Hassan Mohammed, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, and comprising Prof. Dr. Issam Mohammed Ali Hamad and Assistant Professor Dr. Kareem Hassan Ali, visited the Karbala Water and Sewerage Directorate as part of efforts to follow up on the technical and field requirements needed to complete a research study on the treatment of hydrogen sulfide gas (H₂S) generated during wastewater treatment processes.

The delegation held a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate, during which they reviewed the current wastewater treatment operations and adopted operating mechanisms. They also discussed the nature of the field data and information required to support and complete the research procedures.

The study aims to develop scientific approaches for addressing hydrogen sulfide gas and mitigating its environmental impacts by integrating the academic perspective with practical expertise and field data available from the relevant authorities.

The visit comes as part of preparations for prospective research cooperation with a team from China University of Petroleum–Beijing, based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad and the Chinese university. The memorandum includes cooperation in conducting joint research and preparing studies in the fields of infrastructure and related engineering disciplines.
