The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a public defense for the Master’s thesis of Zina Ahmed Abdulhadi
from the Department of Energy Engineering. Her thesis, titled:
“Evaluation of Factors Governing the Use of Floating Solar System: A Study on Iraq’s Important Water Infrastructures ”
was discussed on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in Dr. Mahdi Hantoush Hall,
in the presence of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ghasan Hameed, and the Head of the Energy Engineering Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zina Ali Abdulredha.
Examination Committee:
– Prof. Dr. Mohsen Jabr Juaih – Chair.
– Prof. Dr. Uday Ibrahim Abdullah – Member.
– Asst. Prof. Shaimaa Alaa Al-Din Mahdi – Member.
– Prof. Dr. Munir Hameed Flaitah – Supervisor.
– Prof. Dr. Imad Talib Hashem – Supervisor.
The research evaluates the feasibility of installing floating photovoltaic power stations on five major dams in Iraq, taking into account different coverage ratios. It investigates:
– The potential energy generation and water conservation through reduced evaporation, leading to lower carbon dioxide emissions.
– An economic analysis to assess the total costs for each coverage ratio of the floating photovoltaic systems.
Thesis Recommendations:
– The possibility of integrating photovoltaic solar energy with hydroelectric power stations.
– Examining the impact of dust on solar panel performance.
Result:
Following a thorough scientific discussion by the examination committee, the researcher was awarded a grade of Distinction.
