The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad witnessed the public discussion of the master’s student (Hiba Hassan Ghanem) from the Civil Engineering Department on his thesis entitled (Effect of (LECA) as a Partial Replacement of Coarse Aggregate on Some Properties of Fiber Reinforced Self-Compacting Concrete Exposed to Fire Flame) on Wednesday, 13/11/2024, in Dr. Khaled Shaker Hall. Under the supervision of (Asist. Prof. Hadeel Khalid Awad)
The research aims to studying the properties of self-compacting concrete containing different percentages of LECA as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate and with the addition of glass fiber before and after the exposure to fire flame.
The results showed the self-compacting concrete containing LECA has a higher residual strength after the exposure to fire flame, also the addition of glass fiber enhanced this strength comparing with the normal self-compacting concrete.
Accordingly, the research came out with a set of recommendations, including studying the use of higher percentages of LECA on the same type of concrete and using higher temperatures during the burning procedure also studying the effect of using other types of fiber, in addition to studying the microstructures of concrete with x-rays when using LECA instead of coarse aggregate in self-compacting concrete.
After scientific discussion by the respected members of the discussion committees and listening to the researcher’s defense, the researcher obtained a master’s degree in civil engineering /construction materials with a grade of (Excellent).
