The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad participated in the second workshop on the “Baghdad Smart City” project, organized by the Design Department of the Baghdad Municipality and chaired by Dr. Mohammed Kareem Muhaysin, Assistant Director General of the Design Department. The workshop brought together a distinguished group of specialists and experts in the field of smart cities from Iraqi universities, ministries, and institutions.

The College was represented by faculty members from the Department of Architecture, including Assist. Prof. Dr. Sajida Kadhim Al-Kindi and Lecturer Dr. Inas Hassan Al-Bakri, alongside a number of specialists and experts from academic and governmental institutions.

The workshop discussed the feasibility of implementing the “Baghdad Smart City” project and benefiting from international experiences in the field of smart cities. It also addressed the main themes to be covered in upcoming workshops, including smart services, water, electricity, and sewage networks, waste management, and smart transportation systems.

The participants also discussed proposals for selecting specific areas of Baghdad to be developed in accordance with smart-city concepts and evaluating the experience as a preliminary step toward potentially applying it in other areas of the capital. This would contribute to improving public services and enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation among the Baghdad Municipality, universities, ministries, and Iraqi institutions, as well as involving more specialists and experts, with the aim of developing an integrated roadmap based on sound scientific and planning principles for implementing the “Baghdad Smart City” project.
