The College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, held the public defense of the master’s student Faiz Hussein Saleh Mahdi in the Department of Chemical Engineering for his thesis entitled ” application of air sparging technique in pressure driven membranes ” on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in the hall of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Omar, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Faiq Hassan Al-Alawi. The defense committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Hassan Farhoud Makki as (Chairman), Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Abdul Majeed Khalaf as a (member), and Asst. Dr. Miqat Hassan Saleh as a (member). The study investigated the effect of air sparging techniques to enhance the performance of the water desalination process using reverse osmosis (RO), nanofiltration (NF), and ultrafiltration (UF), which are considered important membrane technologies for water treatment that improve the permeate flow and sodium chloride rejection and Removing crude oil from water using hollow fiber ultrafiltration. A helical membrane unit from reverse osmosis, a thin composite membrane made of polyamide, and hollow fibers of polyvinyl chloride were used as membranes for reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and ultrafiltration, respectively. The results showed high flux and high rejection rates. After discussion, the committee awarded the student Faaiz Hussein Saleh a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
