Under the patronage of the National Security Advisory, the National Center for Spatial Data Management, in collaboration with the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop titled “The Role of Geospatial Technologies in the Creation and Management of Smart Cities.”
This workshop served as the first preparatory event for the upcoming Fifth International Conference on Geospatial Technologies and Smart Cities, scheduled to be held from February 22-24, 2025.
Professor Dr. Saad Fawzi Tammah, Chair of the Department of Architecture Engineering at the University of Baghdad, participated in the workshop with a scientific paper titled “Elements of Sustainable Cities: Reality and Ambition.” The presentation took place on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 9:30 AM in the Dr. Mahdi Hantoush Hall, with the presence of several faculty members, academics, and staff.
The paper discussed sustainable cities worldwide, examining their key elements, strategies for achieving them, and the critical steps necessary to establish sustainable cities in Iraq. It also addressed the future of smart city projects in the country.
The workshop concluded with a set of final recommendations aimed at achieving sustainability and sustainable development within the cities of tomorrow. These recommendations will serve as key steps toward the success of the upcoming conference.
