The Head of the Department of Water Resources Engineering, Professor Dr. Basim Shaba, honored fourth-year student Ali Jassim for achieving first place in the University of Baghdad’s Chess Championship, organised by the Student Activities Department in collaboration with the Iraqi Chess Federation. The championship took place in the College of Science Hall as part of the 2024-2025 academic year events, with strong competition and a large number of participants from various university colleges.

The recognition also included fourth-year student Aya Muhannad Alaa for her participation in the art exhibition held at the University of Baghdad, displayed around the university stadium. This exhibition is a preliminary step towards the larger exhibition that will be organised by the ministry as part of the Women’s Empowerment Unit events. Aya’s artwork received praise from attendees, and she is known for her skill in “doodle art,” which is considered a modern method for psychological therapy and treatment for children with autism.

Through these efforts, students of the Department of Water Resources Engineering demonstrate excellence in their abilities and talents. The department head affirmed his ongoing support for the students and presented them with certificates of appreciation, wishing them continued success and prosperity.
