The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad witnessed the public defense of master’s student (Omar Abd UL-Qader Mohammed) from the Department of Mechanical Engineering regarding his thesis titled (Experimental and Numerical Study of Single Slope Solar Still Inserted with PCM) on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in the hall of Professor Dr. Munther Al-Droubi in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The discussion committee consisted of names listed below:

1- Prof. Dr. Karima Esmail Amori (Chairman)

2- Prof. Dr. Damyaa Saad khudhur (Member)

3- Lect. Dr. Raed Gatea saihood (Member)

4- Asst.Prof. Dr. Ayser Muneer Flayh (Supervisor)

In the current study, an experimental and numerical investigation is conducted to explore the impact of using phase change material and external reflectors on the performance of conventional solar still during different months in the climate of Baghdad during February, August, and October. Also, the effect of water depth was examined for 2 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm. Furthermore, a series of numerical simulations using ANSYS-FLUENT commercial software was conducted Accordingly, the thesis included recommendations including:

  • It is recommended to use PCM and external reflectors as they significantly improve productivity.
  • Reducing the water depth, as the increase significantly decreases productivity.

After the scientific discussion by the members of the discussion committee, the researcher received a rating of (very good).
