On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majid, and the Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Ghanim Mudeih Farman, received the Dean of the College of Petroleum and Gas Engineering at Basra University, Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Abdul Amir Jassim, accompanied by Dr. Engineer Wathiq Jassim Mohammed from Basra Oil Company.
The visit aimed to explore ways of scientific and research cooperation between the two universities and to exchange expertise in academic curricula. The visit included a tour of the postgraduate research laboratory in the Petroleum Engineering Department, where the delegation reviewed the laboratory system for the Gas-Assisted Gravity Drainage (GAGD) process.
Assistant Professor Dr. Dalia Abdul Hadi, a faculty member in Petroleum Engineering, provided a comprehensive explanation of the laboratory system and its operation, linked to a recently published research at the Marine Technology Conference by the student Zahraa Muhannad Kazem. The explanation included a fruitful scientific discussion and clarifications from the student and her supervisor about future ideas expected to be implemented on this system, and the potential benefits for developing new research in the future.
This visit underscores the importance of cooperation between academic and petroleum institutions in enhancing scientific research and developing modern technologies in petroleum engineering.
