In an effort to promote knowledge exchange and build bridges of cooperation among students and researchers from different countries around the world, a delegation of students from the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Talib, is participating in the Fourth International Geological Championship, being held in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, from August 28 to September 10, 2026.
The championship brings together more than 300 students representing approximately 40 universities from different countries. Participants compete across 12 specialized stages covering various fields, including geology, mineral, rock and fossil sciences, geochemistry, and petroleum and gas engineering. The event also features scientific workshops, cultural and sports activities, as well as meetings with specialized Russian companies.
The University of Baghdad’s participation represents a continuation of its distinguished presence in international scientific forums, following its team’s achievement of first place worldwide in the General Knowledge Competition at last year’s edition. This achievement reflects the outstanding academic level of its students and their ability to compete successfully at the international level.
The Deanship of the College of Engineering and the Department of Petroleum Engineering wish the University of Baghdad delegation every success and hope they achieve outstanding results that will further add to the record of achievements of the University of Baghdad and Iraq.
