On Monday, October 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM, the Electrical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, held a scientific workshop entitled “Modern Cybersecurity from A to Z: Source to User” in the department’s smart hall. The workshop was attended by faculty members and students from the department and the college.

The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Saif Al-Din Abdul-Amir Mohammed and Chief Engineer Abdullah Abdul-Ali Jassim. Its aim was to raise awareness of cybersecurity and to highlight the digital challenges and risks facing individuals and institutions, particularly in light of the expansion of digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications.

The workshop covered the fundamental concepts of cybersecurity, from protecting infrastructure, networks, and digital systems to protecting the end user. It also reviewed a number of global cyber incidents, analyzing their causes, effects, and the lessons learned. The workshop also included a presentation on IBM’s most prominent technologies and modern solutions in the field of cybersecurity, including threat monitoring, mobile device management, and data protection solutions. The presentation highlighted IBM MaaS360 and its role in enhancing the security of employees’ and officials’ phones and protecting corporate information.

A portion of the workshop was dedicated to discussing the current state of cybersecurity in Iraq and the challenges associated with digital transformation in governmental and educational institutions. The importance of developing digital protection systems, training specialized personnel, and raising security awareness among citizens was emphasized, as well as the need to develop regulatory and legislative frameworks related to information and communications security.

The workshop’s themes stressed the importance of adopting integrated security strategies that combine modern technological solutions, continuous training, risk management, and cyber incident response. This approach contributes to protecting digital infrastructure and supporting Iraq’s secure digital transformation.

This workshop is part of the scientific and awareness-raising activities organized by the department to keep pace with global technological developments, strengthen the link between academic knowledge and practical applications, and develop scientific and technical capabilities in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
