The Department of Architectural Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Design in Historic Urban Fabric: From Reading the Place to Formulating Interventions – Lessons from Al-Darb Al-Ahmar in Cairo” on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, attended by fifth-year students and faculty members.

The workshop highlighted experiences and revitalization projects in the historic Al-Darb Al-Ahmar district of Cairo by examining architectural and urban intervention strategies and comparing them with the historic urban fabric of the Al-Shawaka district in Baghdad. The aim was to identify design principles and lessons that contribute to preserving urban identity while responding to the needs of local communities.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Amal Fadhil Khanjar, with the participation of Assistant Lecturer Hala Abdul Jabbar Nima, Engineer Ali Qaddouri Fakhri, and Engineer Mais Yousif Mahmoud.
