The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division in University Health Services and the Continuing Education Unit, organized a training course entitled “Civil Defense Strategies in Confronting Accidents and Disasters” on June 9–10, 2026.

The course was supervised by Professor Dr. Ilham Ali Al-Anouz, Director of the Women’s Affairs Unit, with the participation of Dr. Nada Mahdi Fawzi and Engineer Fadhila Saadoun Jabbar.

The training course aimed to promote public safety concepts and raise awareness of prevention methods and emergency response procedures in both workplace and daily life settings. The program covered key topics including first aid principles for burns, suffocation, bleeding, electrical shocks, and fractures. It also reviewed rapid response mechanisms for accidents, preventive measures within the work environment, and the fundamentals of crisis management, all of which contribute to risk reduction and the enhancement of safety practices.

The course concluded with a number of recommendations emphasizing the importance of fostering a culture of safety and first aid within academic institutions. Participants also stressed the need to expand practical training programs to improve emergency preparedness and to strengthen cooperation between health and guidance units in order to broaden awareness and preventive efforts.

This course forms part of the Women’s Affairs Unit’s awareness and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing community awareness and building capacities in the fields of safety and civil defense within the university environment.
