Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hameed Abdul-Majeed, the Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Supervision Unit in the department. The seminar, entitled “Social Media Networks and Their Psychological and Social Impact on Youth,” was held on February 25, 2026.

The seminar featured the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ilham Ali Baiyawi, Director of the Women’s Affairs Unit at the college, and Dr. Abeer Asaad Dawood.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness among university students about the psychological and social impacts of social media networks. It highlighted their positive aspects in learning and skill development, while also warning about the risks associated with misuse and providing practical guidance for the conscious and responsible use of these platforms.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the speakers emphasized the importance of allocating appropriate time for using social media to avoid excessive use and over-engagement. They encouraged focusing on educational and skill-based content that contributes to youth development, maintaining positive interaction with others, avoiding misleading or negative information, and preserving a healthy balance between digital life and real-life interactions to support the psychological and social well-being of young people.

This event was organized as part of the Department of Architecture’s efforts to enhance psychological and educational awareness among youth and to support them in engaging positively with the digital space, thereby contributing to the development of an informed and empowered young generation.
