As part of the activities of Entrepreneurship Week 2026, the Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Decision-Making and Problem-Solving Skills in the Labor Market.” The workshop was delivered by several faculty members of the department, with active participation from third-year students.

The workshop aimed to develop students’ analytical thinking abilities and enhance their professional readiness by introducing them to scientific approaches that enable informed decision-making and systematic problem-solving, thereby strengthening their competitive presence in the job market.

The program addressed the concept of effective decision-making as a conscious choice among multiple alternatives based on clear criteria. It reviewed types of decisions, the rational decision-making model, and its practical steps. The workshop also explored problem-solving methodologies, beginning with precise problem identification and root cause analysis, followed by generating and evaluating alternatives, and ultimately selecting the optimal solution.

The sessions witnessed notable engagement, as several students presented real-life experiences in handling various professional situations, adding a practical dimension that enriched discussions and facilitated the exchange of insights.

The event concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of diagnosing problems based on accurate data before making decisions, adopting objective evaluation criteria, periodically reviewing critical decisions, and involving relevant stakeholders to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.
