As part of efforts to enhance digital transformation and support technological innovation, two female faculty members from the Department of Chemical Engineering — Prof. Dr. Sama Mohammed Abdullah and Asst. Lect. Hala Majid — participated in the workshop entitled “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Digital Transformation and Spatial Applications.” The workshop was held at Sadaf Academy in the Sultanate of Oman on December 7, 2025, in cooperation with the National Center for Spatial Data Management / Iraqi National Security Advisory, and was supervised and delivered by Dr. Nidal Jamil Adeis.
The workshop aimed to highlight the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in supporting institutional digital transformation, with a focus on employing big spatial data to improve the efficiency and quality of services provided in both governmental and private sectors.
The workshop addressed a range of advanced scientific topics, including the relationship between artificial intelligence and spatial data, geographic information systems (GIS), machine learning algorithms in geographic analysis, as well as neural network applications in spatial prediction. It also reviewed several large-scale practical applications, such as smart city projects and intelligent transportation systems.
The in-person participation of the two faculty members in this prominent scientific event comes within the college’s efforts to support scientific research and technological innovation, and to strengthen communication with leading scientific institutions at the regional and international levels.
