The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering organized a ceremonial event on Monday, December 15, 2025, to honor a distinguished group of department faculty members on the occasion of their retirement. The event was held at the Late Dr. Ihsan Hall in the department, in recognition and appreciation of their outstanding efforts and valuable contributions in serving the University and the College.
The honorees included: Professor Dr. Hussein Yousif Mahmoud, Professor Dr. Akram Wahbi Ahmed, Lecturer Dr. Haitham Hashim Mohammed Hassan, Lecturer Maki Hajim Majid, and Senior Chief Engineer Saud Suwaidan Hamid.
During the ceremony, the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Karim Hassan, praised the honorees, emphasizing their prominent role in establishing the department’s scientific foundations and strengthening its academic reputation. He noted that their scientific contributions played a significant role in achieving qualitative accomplishments, including the establishment of postgraduate studies and the department’s inclusion in the QS and Times Higher Education rankings for three consecutive years.
For their part, the honored professors expressed their gratitude for this recognition, affirming their pride in their colleagues and students, and conveying their best wishes for continued progress and success for the department and the University.
