In line with its commitment to sustainable development and responsible consumption and production, the Department of Petroleum Engineering organized a scientific workshop entitled “Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Well Control”. The workshop was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amal Habib Assi Al-Lami, a faculty member of the department, on Sunday, December 8, 2025, at the Primary Studies Hall of the Department of Petroleum Engineering.

The workshop aimed to shed light on well control mechanisms for oil and gas wells in Iraq during drilling operations, through reviewing a range of modern engineering techniques and systems that contribute to preventing kicks, as well as reducing and controlling blowout risks, thereby enhancing operational safety.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer emphasized the importance of adhering to proper technical procedures, adopting scientific principles to preserve hydrocarbon resources, and applying international occupational safety standards to ensure a safe and sustainable working environment in the petroleum sector.
