A delegation from the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, headed by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, visited the Petroleum Research and Development Center. The delegation included Prof. Dr. Ziad Tareq Abdali, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs; Prof. Dr. Faleh Hassan Mohammed, Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs; along with several heads and representatives of the college’s scientific departments. The visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen scientific and research cooperation between academic and research institutions and to reinforce effective partnership between both sides.

The delegation was received by Eng. Ali Jasim Mahmood, Director of the Petroleum Research and Development Center, who welcomed the visitors and praised the pioneering role of the College of Engineering, the University of Baghdad, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in supporting academic and research development in Iraq. He emphasized the importance of consolidating cooperation between the two institutions in scientific and applied fields to support the advancement of the oil and gas sectors and petroleum engineering industries.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed prospects for future collaboration within the framework of existing partnership agreements. They agreed to work jointly on applied research projects and practical training programs for petroleum engineering students, in addition to exchanging academic and research expertise to support the oil industry and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.

The Director of the Studies, Planning, and Follow-up Department at the center delivered a comprehensive presentation on the center’s functions and activities, including its role in conducting scientific research, laboratory testing, and environmental monitoring, as well as its quality systems and the environmental accreditation it has obtained. He also highlighted the center’s support for national oil companies and firms operating under petroleum licensing rounds, and showcased the “Journal of Petroleum Research and Studies” issued by the center, along with the services it provides to Iraqi universities.

In another part of the meeting, both sides discussed ways to employ modern technologies—particularly artificial intelligence—in advancing research programs, stressing the importance of collaborating with oil companies operating under licensing rounds to utilize their expertise in training students and preparing them to keep pace with technological advancements.

At the conclusion of the visit, both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening the partnership between the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Higher Education, in a way that contributes to the development of Iraq’s oil industry and the investment of scientific capacities to build a promising future for national talents.
