Asst. Lecturer Mahmood Sawadi, a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering – College of Engineering – University of Baghdad, has published a research paper titled:
“Lifetime-Based Discontinuous PWM for Cascaded H-Bridge Converters”
The paper was published in collaboration with an international research team in IEEE Access, one of the prestigious journals ranked in the first quartile (Q1) in the Scopus index, with an Impact Factor of 3.9 and a Cite Score of 9.8 according to the latest 2024 rankings.
The study introduces a new algorithm based on Lifetime-Based Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation (DPWM) aimed at enhancing the performance of Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) converters. These converters are widely used in medium- and high-voltage applications such as grid integration of solar and wind energy.
The effectiveness of the proposed method was validated through mathematical modeling, advanced simulations, and experimental results, which confirmed its ability to improve system reliability and reduce maintenance costs in multilevel power systems.
This research represents a significant contribution to the field of power electronics and intelligent control, reflecting the advancement of scientific research at the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad.
