Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majid, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, the college, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a training course titled *“Combating Corruption Towards a More Transparent Society.”* The course was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Farah Al-Hashemi and held over two days, on May 26 and 27, 2025, in the Jameel Issa Hall within the college.
The course aimed to raise participants’ awareness about the dangers of administrative corruption and to encourage employees to adopt a culture of integrity and transparency in their governmental institutions. It focused on explaining the general concept of administrative corruption and its most prominent forms, including the abuse of public office for personal gain through bribery, favoritism, and influence peddling—considered among the main causes of corruption in the workplace.
The course also provided a detailed presentation on ways to address this phenomenon, through strengthening institutional oversight and reinforcing integrity practices. It emphasized the importance of updating administrative systems to enhance transparency and reduce opportunities for corruption. Additionally, it highlighted the vital role of civil society in supporting anti-corruption efforts through continuous awareness of its dangers, methods, and countermeasures.
At the conclusion of the course, the lecturer recommended the necessity of building an administrative environment based on transparency and oversight, and spreading a culture of integrity in state institutions, as a means to achieve institutional reform and strengthen citizens’ trust in public service.
