This dissertation addressed the development of the gear hardness, stiffness, strength, impact strength, resistance to wear, thermal conductivity, and gear tooth heat dissipation, a combined hybrid gear has been presented. This hybrid gear consists of a hybrid polymer matrix Functionally Graded Material gear of a novel asymmetric hybrid tooth profile design with a novel metallic fin insert.
The Dissertation included recommendations including:
- Continued Development and Manufacturing of Hybrid Functionally Graded Polymer Gears given the significant improvements in tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, wear resistance, and thermal conductivity, it is recommended to focus on these composite materials and expand their use in various industrial applications.
- Adopting Asymmetric Tooth Profile Designs the results demonstrated that the asymmetric design achieves noticeable improvements in nominal and maximum tensile stresses. Therefore, it is advisable to adopt this type of tooth profile in the design of polymer gears, especially under high-load conditions.
- Integrating Metal Fins into Gear Designs
Metal fins have proven to play a major role in enhancing the thermal performance of gears by significantly reducing the maximum temperature. It is thus recommended to incorporate this featur
