The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a workshop entitled “Breast Cancer Detection Using Microwave Techniques” as part of the Department of Electronic and Communications Engineering’s scientific activities. The workshop, held in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education, was sponsored by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, and supervised by the Head of the Department of Electronic and Communications Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Aqeel Nima Al-Maamouri. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Haider Salah Ahmed on Monday, April 21, 2025, in the department’s discussion hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and staff. The workshop included the following topics: defining breast cancer risks, traditional methods for detecting breast cancer, studying the electrical properties of cancer cells, techniques for detecting breast cancer using microwaves, the accuracy and ease of use of these techniques, and the algorithms used to map the affected areas. Finally, the symposium concluded with a set of recommendations, including the importance of early detection of the disease, which helps patients recover quickly. It also aimed to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of modern technologies that rely on microwaves to detect the disease, due to the accuracy of the results, the comfort for the patient, and the reduction of the risks associated with detection with traditional techniques. Finally, it recommended focusing future studies on the algorithms used to map the affected are
