The Computer Engineering Department participated in the Fourth Scientific Forum for Outstanding Graduation Projects at Al-Mansour University with the project of student Israa Mohammed Abdul Ali, supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Saadoun Hatheel. The project won fifth place out of a total of 125 projects.

The participating research aimed to improve the diagnosis of breast cancer, which is one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide. The study proposed a hybrid approach that combines edge detection using the Canny algorithm with a Dense Convolutional Neural Network (Dense CNN) to enhance the detection of this type of cancer.

The experimental results showed that the proposed model achieved an accuracy of 88.37%, significantly outperforming the standalone Dense CNN, which achieved an accuracy of 72.73%.
