The Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific visit for fourth-year students to the Middle Refineries Company – Al-Doura Refinery.

The aim of this visit is to enhance students’ practical and applied knowledge regarding oil industry processes, refining, and the units for improving and processing petroleum derivatives, as well as understanding how they operate. It also provides students with the opportunity to directly observe the units and learn about the solutions to practical problems faced by operating engineers. Additionally, the visit serves as an opportunity to strengthen communication between students and entities working in the important oil sector, contributing to linking academic aspects with practical and applied realities.

Students engaged significantly with the explanations provided and raised inquiries regarding certain technical issues and technologies used in the atmospheric distillation unit and its accompanying units, enriching their scientific experience and enhancing their understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field.

It is worth noting that this visit is part of a series of scientific activities organized by the department to enhance the practical aspect for students and prepare them for labor market requirements.

During the visit, students were accompanied by several faculty members from the department and a team of operating engineers and control unit staff at the refinery.
