In line with fostering collaboration between academic institutions and the state’s executive sectors, Assistant Professor Dr. Zeina Ali Abdul-Ridha, Head of the Energy Engineering Department, and Professor Dr. Firas Mohammed Tuaimah, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Baghdad’s College of Engineering, participated in the specialized seminar titled: “Investment in Energy Management and Smart Solutions: Future Prospects.”
The seminar was organized by the National Investment Commission (International Cooperation Department) in collaboration with the “Iraqi Smart Cities Forum” on Thursday, February 19, 2026. The event featured high-level participation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, alongside several ministries and international organizations.
The participation took place amidst a broad academic and governmental presence. The seminar focused on mechanisms for integrating smart systems into investment projects to enhance service performance and reduce energy waste. Both department heads contributed to scientific discussions, reviewing innovative digital solutions and renewable energy applications. They emphasized the necessity of adapting global technologies to meet the specific requirements of the Iraqi local environment.
The participation concluded with the necessity of strengthening the partnership between engineering institutions and investment authorities and achieving economic development, to provide a scientific framework that supports digital transformation and contributes to building sustainable cities that meet the aspirations of citizens and support the national economy, within the framework of enhancing mutual cooperation between academic institutions and executive.
