Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hameed Abdul-Majeed, the Department of Architecture, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the college, organized a workshop on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, entitled “Urban Standards for Designing Neighborhood Units in Multi-Storey Housing Projects.” The workshop was delivered by a group of faculty members from the department and was held at Mohammed Makiya Hall.

The workshop addressed the organizational principles for designing healthy and sustainable residential environments within high-density housing projects. It focused on planning neighborhood units, the distribution of services and facilities, and the organization of circulation and open spaces in a way that achieves a balance between population density and quality of life.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the speakers emphasized the importance of adopting urban standards in the design of neighborhood units to ensure the sustainability of residential environments and improve quality of life. They also highlighted the need to organize circulation and distribute services and facilities in proportion to population density, enhance open and green spaces to provide a healthy and safe environment, and encourage the use of modern urban planning techniques in multi-storey housing projects.
