Assistant Lecturer Mohamed Munther from the College of Engineering at Baghdad University participated in the 8th International Conference organized by the College of Education at Basra University, under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The conference, held from February 18 to 20, 2025, carried the theme “Sports and Sustainable Development in Light of Artificial Intelligence Horizons.”
Assistant Lecturer Mohamed Munther’s participation involved a scientific paper that explored refereeing performance through the lens of smart leadership for referees in the Iraqi Volleyball Federation. The paper reviewed the performance level of referees in Iraq, highlighting that the underperformance of some referees may be attributed to limited use of smart leadership in appropriate situations.
The research aimed to measure the relationship between refereeing performance and smart leadership among volleyball referees in Iraq, with the hypothesis that a real correlation exists between them.
The study concluded that volleyball referees in Iraq exhibit a good level of refereeing performance and smart leadership. Based on these findings, the research proposed several recommendations, including the potential for adopting smart leadership metrics to monitor referees and the need to incorporate smart leadership training courses into the development programs of the Iraqi Volleyball Federation and the Central Referees Committee.
