As part of the scientific activities of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Baghdad, and under the patronage of the esteemed Dean, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdulmajid, a workshop was held on “The Key Frameworks for Writing a Master’s Thesis or PhD Dissertation.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Hassanin Abbas Hassan on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Dr. Mahmoud Omar Hall, with the attendance of faculty members and graduate students.
The workshop covered the following key topics:
- The main sections for structuring a Master’s thesis or PhD dissertation.
- Common mistakes made by graduate students when writing their theses or dissertations.
- How to properly format, including choosing correct margins, font type and size, and organizing tables and figures.
- General tips for writing theses and dissertations.
The goal of the workshop was to clarify the standards for preparing theses and dissertations in alignment with internationally recognized academic rules. The workshop addressed essential steps for writing and documenting research, helping reduce errors and saving time in highlighting the analytical and scientific aspects of the work. A Master’s thesis or PhD dissertation is a significant academic achievement, representing the researcher’s work from identifying the research topic to achieving the intended goal, contributing new knowledge to the field. The thesis or dissertation also provides precise information that helps experts evaluate the research results or related experiments.
Finally, the workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, including encouraging students to follow these guidelines based on reliable academic literature and university experiences from various countries, as well as the specifications provided by the Ministry of Higher Education for writing academic theses and dissertations.
