Dhirgham Alobaydi, Head of the Department of Architecture, participated in the discussion of the master’s thesis of Sadaf Muhammad Murtada, titled Rhizome_and_Swarm_Intelligence: A Strategy in Urban Development.” The thesis, presented on September 17, 2024, at the University of Technology in Baghdad, examined how the unconventional concepts of rhizome and swarm intelligence can be applied to modern urban design.
The research problem stemmed from the lack of understanding of how these flexible and adaptive concepts could contribute to sustainable urban growth strategies. Sadaf Muhammad’s work aimed to address this gap by exploring the relationship between these theories and urban practices. Her thesis concluded that sustainable urban growth requires systems that are adaptable and responsive to dynamic interactions between urban components, enhancing a city’s ability to respond to environmental and social changes.
