Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, and under the supervision of the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Rasha Habeeb Salman, the department, in collaboration with the College’s Quality Assurance Division, held a workshop entitled “The Third Criterion of Engineering Accreditation in the Chemical Engineering Department” on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the Mahdi Hantoush Hall.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, and the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Ziad Tariq Abdul Ali, alongside several faculty members and staff. The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ibtihal Kareem Shaker and Assist. Lecturer Adhraa Wali Aziz.

The workshop aimed to clarify the requirements of the third criterion of engineering accreditation. It addressed the contents of course portfolios, methods for preparing examinations and aligning them with learning outcomes, and the importance of standardizing educational objectives and assessment methods. It also highlighted the need to document evidence demonstrating the achievement of these outcomes, thereby improving assessment accuracy and supporting compliance with engineering accreditation requirements.

Based on the topics discussed, the presenters recommended regularly updating course portfolios, reviewing examinations to ensure alignment with intended learning outcomes, and strengthening coordination between faculty members and the Quality Assurance Division to ensure that all criterion requirements are fulfilled and properly documented in accordance with approved standards.

This workshop forms part of the College of Engineering’s ongoing efforts at the University of Baghdad to improve educational practices and foster a culture of quality by translating engineering accreditation requirements into documented academic procedures that enhance assessment methods and improve educational outcomes.
