As part of the College of Engineering’s commitment to strengthening academic and professional engagement with government institutions, the private sector, and Iraqi universities, the Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad continued the discussion and evaluation of graduation projects that demonstrated an advanced level of architectural awareness and research-oriented approaches to addressing the real challenges facing Iraqi cities.
The projects presented reflected diversity in themes and integration in design visions, focusing on innovative architectural solutions that respond to community needs in service, healthcare, cultural, recreational, and developmental sectors. These proposals were developed in accordance with sustainability principles and aimed at enhancing the quality of urban life.
Among the distinguished projects was “Generations Forum”, designed by student Sarah Mohammed under the supervision of Dr. Enas Hassan Al-Bakri. The project embodied a humanitarian vision aimed at fostering interaction and social cohesion between two important groups within society: orphans and retirees. Through its architectural plans, design concepts, façades, and visual presentations, the project illustrated the human connections between these groups, reinforcing the concept of social sustainability and highlighting the role of architecture in strengthening social bonds.
The project discussion was attended by humanitarian activist Hisham Al Dhahabi, who praised the project’s concept and its humanitarian dimensions. He also provided valuable observations and insights that enriched the discussion and emphasized the importance of utilizing architecture to address societal issues and promote human solidarity and social inclusion.
