Professor Dr. Ammar Saleh Abbas, a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering, participated in the scientific seminar entitled “Petrochemical Industry – Reality – Challenges – Prospects for Development,” which was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The seminar was organized through joint cooperation between the Iraqi Engineers Union, the College of Engineering, and the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce, along with several scientific, cultural, and sectoral institutions concerned with industrial and oil affairs.
The participation of the College of Engineering came within the framework of strengthening its academic and scientific role in supporting vital industrial sectors, particularly the petrochemical industries sector, through linking scientific knowledge with modern engineering applications and keeping pace with global developments in this field.
The seminar addressed the current state of the petrochemical industry in Iraq and the challenges facing the development of this strategic sector, in addition to discussing prospects for investment and industrial development, as well as the importance of employing academic and engineering expertise to support the national economy and provide job opportunities for graduates.
During his participation, Professor Dr. Ammar Saleh Abbas emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between universities, professional institutions, and the industrial sector, noting that the University of Baghdad College of Engineering possesses scientific and research capabilities capable of contributing technical and engineering solutions that support the development of petrochemical industries and promote sustainable development pathways in Iraq.
The seminar witnessed distinguished academic and professional attendance, alongside scientific discussions on ways to advance national industries and strengthen integration between educational institutions and the productive and service sectors.
