The Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Engineering and the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Role of Law in Engineering Projects from Idea to Implementation” for first-year students. The workshop was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Khalil Ahmed from the Department of Environmental Engineering on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
The workshop aimed to enhance students’ awareness of the legal and ethical responsibilities of engineers, and to develop their understanding of the role of law in regulating engineering practice, protecting intellectual property, and ensuring the rights of all parties involved in projects.
It addressed the importance of the legal dimension across all stages of engineering projects, starting from planning and design, through implementation, and up to completion. The workshop also highlighted environmental laws and engineering regulations that contribute to ensuring project sustainability and reinforcing human rights principles within the engineering work environment.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer recommended strengthening legal awareness among engineering students from the early stages of their studies, given its essential role in building sound and responsible engineering practices. He also emphasized the importance of integrating legal and ethical aspects into both academic and practical training paths, in order to prepare engineers capable of handling project requirements within approved legal frameworks.
