The Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad organized a scientific presentation on Sunday, May 3, 2026, showcasing the projects of master’s students in the Advanced Architectural Design course. The projects were completed under the supervision of Professor Dr. Zainab Radi Abbas, with the participation of Professor Dr. Kadhim Fares and Assistant Professor Dr. Sajida Kadhim.
The event was attended by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Abdul Hamid, who was received by the Head of the Department of Architecture, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Abdul Munim. During the event, he reviewed a collection of research and design projects presented by postgraduate students, which reflected advanced levels of scientific and practical application in the fields of architecture and urban design.
The showcased projects covered a variety of contemporary architectural approaches, focusing on documenting architectural memory and preserving urban heritage through the use of virtual reality technologies and digital simulation. These approaches contribute to the development of modern architectural analysis and documentation tools. Other themes addressed the concept of human-centered urban quality by proposing design solutions that support people with disabilities, particularly the visually impaired, while enhancing the inclusiveness and accessibility of urban spaces.
The projects also included studies on urban space dynamics and the revitalization of riverfronts, as well as approaches to reviving and repurposing modernist architecture within contemporary contexts. Some projects further explored the development of the urban landscape of the city of Sana’a, aiming to achieve a balance between historical authenticity and the requirements of modern urban development.
These projects reflect the department’s commitment to enhancing postgraduate students’ capabilities in employing modern technologies and contemporary design methodologies to address architectural and urban issues, thereby contributing to improving the quality of the built environment and achieving sustainability principles in urban and architectural design.
