Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul-Majeed, the University Psychological Counseling Unit organized a workshop in cooperation with the College of Science, the Continuing Education Unit, and the Department of Surveying Engineering on Monday, April 13, 2026. The workshop, titled “Health Security and Its Role in the Stability and Development of Society,” was attended by a number of students from the Department of Surveying Engineering.

The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Hiba Muayyad Mohammed, Director of the University Psychological Counseling Unit, and Assistant Lecturer Amna Rami from the College of Science. They addressed the concept of health security as one of the fundamental pillars of societal stability, especially in light of contemporary health and psychological challenges.

The speakers explained that health security refers to the ability of the state and society to protect individuals’ health from risks—whether communicable or non-communicable diseases—through an integrated system that includes prevention, treatment, awareness, and effective emergency response. They also discussed environmental, social, and behavioral factors affecting human health, such as air and water quality, lifestyle, and the level of health awareness.

The workshop emphasized that societies with strong and cohesive healthcare systems are better equipped to face crises and challenges and are less vulnerable to the spread of diseases, thereby enhancing individuals’ sense of safety and stability.

The workshop concluded by stressing that health security is a shared responsibility among the state, institutions, and individuals—especially university students—through adopting healthy behaviors, contributing to awareness efforts, and working to improve healthcare services, all of which support the building of a healthy, stable society capable of achieving sustainable development.
