As part of the scientific activities of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Baghdad, and under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, a workshop entitled “Ethical Considerations in Research” was held.
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ibrahim Hassan on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in the Professor Dr. Ihsan Yahya Hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members, researchers, and students.
The workshop addressed several key themes, including the concept of research ethics, the importance of academic integrity, avoiding plagiarism, proper documentation of sources and references, ethical controls in data collection, and mechanisms for adhering to ethical standards in the preparation and publication of scientific research.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of ethics in scientific research, promote a culture of academic honesty, and clarify the researcher’s responsibility to adhere to academic and humanitarian standards. This contributes to improving the quality of scientific research and enhancing the credibility of its outcomes.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, emphasizing the need to adhere to the principles of scientific integrity at all stages of research, ensure accurate documentation of sources and references, avoid all forms of plagiarism, and take ethical and humanitarian considerations into account when dealing with participants or research samples. It also stressed the importance of organizing continuous workshops and training courses to raise awareness of research ethics.
