Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, and supervised by the Head of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Anmar Hamid Ali, the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Psychological Skills and Their Relationship to Athletic Excellence in Volleyball Players.” The workshop was held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in the department’s smart hall.

The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Munther and began with an introductory session on the game of volleyball, including an explanation of court dimensions and the basic rules of the game, enhancing participants’ technical understanding.

The workshop addressed the vital role of the psychological aspect in sports, focusing on the concept of psychological skills, their importance in improving performance, and the mechanisms through which players learn and acquire them. Several key psychological skills were discussed, including relaxation techniques, control of sports anxiety, attention focus, and achievement motivation.

It also highlighted the relationship between the sports field and psychology, explaining how a player’s mental state affects individual performance and overall team level, supported by examples from historical sporting events that demonstrated the importance of psychological factors in achieving excellence.

The workshop concluded with practical recommendations aimed at developing both the psychological and physical performance of players, positively reflecting on their competitive levels.

This workshop is part of a series of scientific and educational activities organized by the Department of Aeronautical Engineering to enhance students’ cognitive and practical skills and connect them with real-world fields, including sports.
