The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad hosted the public defense of Master’s student (Ali Nael Hassan) from the Energy Engineering Department for his thesis entitled (Design of MW PV Solar System According to the Daily Real Load Data to Reach Zero Grid Consumption in the First Governmental Building) on Tuesday, September 8, 2026in the hall of the Survey Engineering Department, under the supervision of (Prof. Dr. Oday Ibrahim Abdullah and Expert Dr. Nasser Kareem Qasim).
The thesis aimed to (design and validate a high-efficiency megawatt-scale photovoltaic (PV) system that matches the actual daily load profile of a government building, reduces dependency on the national electricity grid, and achieves net-zero grid consumption). The thesis included (simulating the system using MATLAB and PVSYST software, comparing theoretical results between both programs, and subsequently comparing them with real-world operational results of the PV system). the thesis concluded with a set of recommendations.
- Implementation of an automated cleaning system.
- Addition of a solar tracking system.
- AI-based monitoring.
- Battery energy storage integration.
Following the scientific discussion by the committee members, listening to the researcher’s defense, and evaluating the thesis, the researcher wasawarded a grade of (Excellence) for his Master’s Degree in EnergyEngineering.
