As part of the activities of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2026, and in line with its efforts to enhance the practical skills of its students and graduates, the Department of Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad organized a specialized workshop on Thursday, February 12, 2026, in cooperation with the Continuing Education and Rehabilitation & Employment Units.

The workshop, entitled “Simulation of Power Systems and Electrical Machines Using MATLAB/Simulink,” was delivered by Dr. Rana Ali Abtan and Lecturer Anmar Khawam, in the presence of department students and a number of interested engineers.

The workshop aimed to enable participants to effectively utilize modern computer-based simulation tools. It emphasized the importance of digital modeling in reducing operational costs and time prior to the implementation of practical projects, in addition to linking academic curricula with the technical requirements of the industrial sector.

The workshop covered four main themes: an introduction to engineering simulation and its significance; an overview of the MATLAB/Simulink working environment; a practical application involving the modeling of an integrated electrical system; and a presentation of engineering applications in the labor market, followed by an open discussion session for exchanging ideas.

The event concluded by stressing the importance of acquiring advanced analytical capabilities, including proper modeling procedures and analyzing system behavior under various operating conditions, thereby enhancing participants’ competitiveness in the modern engineering job market.
