In a new scientific achievement added to the record of the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Dhai’a Assi, a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, won first place and received the Shield for Best Research Paper at the 3rd International Conference on the Future of Sustainable Energy (ICFSE 2025), held at Al-Mustaqbal University / Babylon from October 19–20, 2025.

Prof. Dr. Abdullah Dhai’a participated with a research paper titled “Corrosion Protection of Marine Ship Hulls Using Polypoxy CR Coating under Seawater Flow”, which focused on protecting C35 carbon steel used in ship hulls from corrosion caused by seawater.

Experimental tests were conducted under artificial seawater flow conditions at a rate of 1500 L/h for multiple immersion periods, comparing coated and uncoated samples. The results demonstrated that the coating reduced the corrosion rate by more than 90% and achieved up to 100% efficiency during the initial immersion days, making it a highly effective and cost-efficient solution for protecting marine structures.

This achievement represents a significant scientific contribution that highlights the research excellence of the University of Baghdad in advancing sustainable energy technologies and supporting industrial and marine infrastructure protection.
