The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad organized the First Iraqi Forum for Architecture Departments, with broad participation from 27 public and private universities across various Iraqi provinces. The event was attended by a distinguished group of architecture professors, engineers from both the public and private sectors, and representatives of the Engineers Syndicate as well as related academic and professional institutions.
The forum aimed to unify academic and professional visions, exchange experiences among architecture departments in Iraqi universities, and discuss the challenges facing architectural education and prospects for its development. It represented an academic effort to enhance the architectural education environment in Iraq and align it with the requirements of sustainable development.
Organizers emphasized that this event marks an important step toward strengthening academic and scientific communication among architecture departments, opening new horizons for joint collaboration, and contributing to the preparation of a generation of architects equipped with the professional and scientific awareness necessary to advance the national urban environment.
The forum also sought to establish a permanent platform for interaction and coordination among architecture departments, promote creative competition among students in graduation projects, and support scientific initiatives that align with labor market developments and the goals of sustainable development in the country.
The sessions of the forum covered various topics, including the academic reality and future prospects of architecture, Iraqi architecture between reality and aspiration, and the role of architectural competitions in discovering and nurturing young talents — all within a scientific vision aimed at advancing the Iraqi architectural landscape and unifying academic and professional efforts in this field.
