The College of Engineering – University of Baghdad held the public defense of the M.Sc. student Zahraa Majeed Hameed from the Department of Chemical Engineering for her thesis entitled Elimination of Methyl Orange Dye from Simulated Wastewater by Electro-Fenton Process on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, in Prof. Dr. Mahmood Omar’s Hall, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rasha Habeeb Salman. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Anees Abdullah Kazem (Chairman), Asst. Prof. Dr. Basma Ismail Hussein (Member), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Shaimaa Abdulrahman Ahmed (Member). The study investigated 2D and 3D Electro-Fenton systems for methyl orange removal, achieving high MO and COD removal efficiencies, with the 3D system proving superior in efficiency and energy consumption, while ultrasound provided only slight improvements. Industrial iron waste performed comparably to commercial salts with reusability, and copper foam electrodes maintained stable performance over several cycles. The study recommended testing high-frequency ultrasound, surface treatment of iron waste to reduce leaching, minimizing copper dissolution, and evaluating different dye concentrations as well as other dyes. After the defense and discussion, the committee awarded Zahraa Majeed Hameed the degree of Master of Science in Chemical Engineering.
