Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Munther Mohammed, a faculty member at the College of Engineering – University of Baghdad, took part in the proceedings of the Third International Conference organized by the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in cooperation with several universities and private colleges, including Al-Turath University, Bilad Al-Rafidain University, Al-Imam Jaafar Al-Sadiq University, and Al-Yarmouk and Al-Ma’moon Colleges. The conference was held in Diyala Province from August 27–28, 2025, under the theme “Physical Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Visions and Applications.”
The faculty member’s participation came through presenting a research paper titled “Psychological Expenditure and Its Relationship to the Serving Skill among Volleyball Players of the Specialized School.” The study included developing a special scale for psychological expenditure and measuring its impact on players’ performance, particularly in serving, which is considered one of the fundamental skills of the game.
The research highlighted the importance of the psychological aspect in enhancing sports performance, emphasizing that controlling and positively channeling psychological energy contributes to raising players’ skill achievement levels.
The study concluded with several important recommendations, most notably the inclusion of well-designed psychological training programs within sports training plans to enhance motivation and self-confidence, and to develop players’ ability to regulate emotions during competitions. It also stressed the need to train athletes in strategies for managing psychological expenditure in ways that positively reflect on in-game performance. Additionally, the research recommended conducting periodic measurements of psychological expenditure levels throughout the season and monitoring their correlation with skill performance, while underlining the importance of having sports psychologists within training teams to provide necessary support for athletes.
This participation comes as part of the University of Baghdad’s commitment to supporting scientific research and encouraging its faculty members to actively contribute to local and international conferences, thereby strengthening its academic standing and advancing various fields, including the intersection of psychological sciences, sports, and modern technology.
