The College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, hosted a public discussion for master’s student (Mais Salman Obaid) from the Department of Computer Science. Her thesis was entitled… (Development of a Fingerprint Recognition System Using the Coherent Diffusion and Variance Model). The discussion took place on August 28, 2025, in the discussion hall of the Department of Computer Engineering, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Sadoon Hathel. The discussion committee consisted of the professors listed below:
1.Prof. Dr. Muhammad Issam Younis – University of Baghdad / Computer Engineering – Chairman
- Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Saeed Muhammad – Al-Mustansiriya University / Computer Engineering – Member
- Assistant Professor Dr. Aqeel Abdul Aziz Muhammad – University of Baghdad / Electronic Engineering – Member
The thesis aimed to: (The thesis aims to improve the accuracy of fingerprint verification systems by processing images using advanced filtering, enhancement, and processing techniques). The thesis also included a comparative study of a number of classical and modern fingerprint processing algorithms, analyzing their performance to achieve optimal results.
The thesis concluded with a set of recommendations, including:
- Is it possible to utilize the thesis results for security and criminal investigations?
- Incorporate additional optimization algorithms or complementary techniques.
- The benefit of expanding the database used for training and testing.
After a scholarly discussion by the members of the discussion committee, listening to the researcher’s defense, and evaluating the thesis, the researcher was awarded a master’s degree in computer engineering.
