The College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, hosted a public discussion for master’s student (Shahd Ali Redha) from the Department of Computer Engineering. Her thesis, entitled “Construction of Healthcare Monitoring and Tracking System Based on IoT and Machine Learning,” was held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in the discussion hall of the Department of Computer Science, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Issam Younis. The discussion committee consisted of the professors listed below:

1- Prof. Mahmoud Zaki Abdullah – Al-Mustansiriya University / Computer Engineering

 Chair

2- Asst. Prof. Dr. Basheera Muhammad Redha Mahmmod – University of Baghdad / Computer Engineering – Member

3- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar Adel Hassan – University of Baghdad / Computer Engineering – Member

The thesis aimed to build an integrated healthcare system based on Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing technologies, employing machine learning algorithms to predict heart disease and improve the quality of diagnosis and medical follow-up.

The thesis also included building an integrated, general system that incorporates the Internet of Things while adhering to standard protocols. It also included developing a smart web application that addresses local problems, providing features such as displaying and tracking patient data, scheduling electronic appointments, and maintaining a complete patient medical record. Furthermore, the thesis included implementing heart disease prediction algorithms using a cloud infrastructure. The system’s performance was tested and the results analyzed.

The thesis concluded with a set of important recommendations, most notably.

1-Expanding the use of IoT technologies in hospitals and health centers for remote patient monitoring.

2- Applying advanced machine learning algorithms and feeding them with more diverse data to increase the accuracy of early diagnosis of heart disease.

3- Developing and expanding the smart web application to include additional services, in addition to implementing the system in health centers to improve the quality of care.

After a scientific discussion by the members of the discussion committee, listening to the researcher’s defense, and evaluating the thesis, the researcher was awarded a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering.
