The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Baghdad – College of Engineering, and under the auspices of the Deanship of the Faculty of Engineering, held a workshop entitled “The needs of the labor market and the weaknesses of graduates”, which was delivered by the assistant lecturer, Al-Hareth Muthana Basheer, and the assistant lecturer, Raafat Saleh Muhammad, on Sunday, 02/02/2025, in Mahdi Hantush Hall, in the presence of a number of faculty and university members. The workshop covered a number of topics, including a description of the modern labor market, the way institutions work, what institutional culture is, a description of the situation of the current graduate and the difficulties he/she faces, and then a number of points were presented that explain how to develop the technical skills of graduates, their importance, and how to develop The personal skills of graduates and their importance, how to address the weakness of the English language among students, and the necessity of continuous monitoring of the labor market and matching them with the students’ educational materials in principle. The aim of the workshop was to focus on the graduates’ weaknesses, present appropriate methods for solving them, and clarify the importance of the personal aspect in private work in addition to the technical aspect, and then clarify the need of the labor market. The symposium came out with a set of recommendations, including: the necessity of following up on the final stage until after they graduate and providing advice and advice to them in this field, as well as forming coordination committees with private sector companies for the purposes of summer training for pre-final stage students, and how to include the work of the committees in an attempt to convey the requirements of the labor market in institutions and companies. Transferring it to the educational contents in laboratories so that the students can be trained on them before their graduation.
